Coronavirus update

Market Vets takes the safety of our staff, clients and their pets very seriously whilst maintaining a high level of care.



COVID-19 update 7th May 2020


We are now in a position to start vaccinating pets following a risk assessment.

This means that most primary courses for puppies will go ahead, as well as first year boosters (the first booster following their primary course). We will risk assess adult dog boosters on an individual basis, many of which will need to be delayed slightly.

We are not carrying out any Kennel Cough vaccinations currently due to the fact they are live vaccines.


We are not carrying out primary courses for kittens routinely so they will need to be kept indoors.

Adult cat boosters can safely be delayed for up to 3 months therefore there will be a delay on these.

Any vaccinations going ahead at this time will be delivered in a slightly different way to normal. 


Clients will need to wait outside or in their car. The vet will come out to you to collect your pet. The vaccination will take place inside the practice and then your pet will be returned to you outside.

COVID-19 Update 3rd April 2020


Our opening hours are changing temporarily for both South Molton & Barnstaple,

please see below.


Monday to Friday       –      9am – 6pm

Saturday                       -      9am – 1pm

Sunday                         -      Closed


This is for urgent/emergency appointments only/some vaccinations and to collect pre-ordered repeat medication/parasite treatment/food.


Please call us if you are concerned about your pet’s health and our vets will work out the safest way to deliver care to them.



COVID-19 Update 25th March 2020


Due to the latest government advice issued, we are unfortunately now only seeing urgent/emergency appointments.


Our teams are currently contacting clients to postpone/rearrange routine appointments and operations.


If you have any concerns, please call us to discuss them. We may be able to conduct an examination via video call.


When arriving for an urgent appointment or to collect medication, please wait in your car and call us on 01769 572176 (South Molton) and 01271 344262 (Barnstaple) to let us know you have arrived. The doors to the practice will be locked. A member of staff will then come out to you to collect your pet, whilst maintaining a safe distance. Your pet will then be taken into the practice to be examined and will be returned to you outside.
***Please let the team know prior to your arrival if you or anyone in your household is showing symptoms of COVID-19***


Please maintain a safe distance from other clients when waiting for a member of the team.


Our large animal vets are operating from their vehicles and will be completing visits as normal. Please try, where possible, to maintain a safe distance from our vets when out on farms. If anyone at the premises is showing any symptoms, please let a member of staff know prior to arrival.


Due to ever changing recommendations, we are having to change our vaccination protocol for the foreseeable future.


We were trying to continue with primary courses of vaccinations for puppies and kittens but unfortunately these are going to have to be postponed.


Our advice is to keep puppies indoors (or in your contained garden) and avoid them coming in to contact with other dogs. From a socialisation point of view, this is not ideal but we are all going to have to be a bit creative in exposing them to different situations. We will try to post more on this in the near future with some advice and tips.


Kittens should be kept indoors.


Annual boosters for all dogs, cats and rabbits will be postponed until further notice.


At present, all equine vaccinations will be postponed until further notice.


We understand this is a worrying time for our clients and the health of their pets and of course, emergency/urgent appointments will be seen.


We are understandably receiving lots of calls from worried owners. Medication for your pet can still be ordered over the phone but we are getting a lot of orders so it may take longer than normal. Please be patient with our staff during this challenging time.

COVID-19  Update 17th March 2020

Due to the increasing numbers of cases of COVID-19, we feel it is important to implement some safety precautions to help protect everyone whilst allowing us to remain open and function to the best of our abilities.


We have provided hand sanitiser in our reception areas and kindly ask that all clients use this before and after their appointment.


Where possible - card payments only please.


We politely ask all clients that are self-isolating or showing any symptoms (or someone in their household) to please let our staff know over the phone if their pet requires veterinary treatment. In these cases, we are introducing telephone consultations. 


We have taken the decision to reduce our opening times slightly to reduce footfall through the practice and to manage our staffing levels.


Our late night surgeries, our Sunday clinic in our Barnstaple branch and our Tuesday Lynton clinic will be stopping for the foreseeable future.


Our opening times currently are as follows:


South Molton & Barnstaple


Monday - Friday – 8.30am-6.30pm

Saturday – 8.30am-5.30pm

Sunday – Closed


Emergencies will be seen as normal.
