Alan Jaques - Director - MA MBA VetMB CertCHP DBR MRCVS
Alan is the Managing Director of Market Veterinary Centre. He graduated from Cambridge University in 1995 and has been involved in mixed practice ever since. He obtained the RCVS Certificate in cattle Health and Production in 2000 and a Diploma in Bovine Reproduction in 2005. Most of Alan's time is now spent running the business side of Market Vets but he maintains a keen interest in all areas of farm animal practice especially reproductive technologies.
Craig Ferguson - Clinical Director - BVSc PG Cert SAS MRCVS
Originally from Yorkshire, Craig trained in Liverpool and graduated in 2001. Before joining Market Vets in 2008 he worked in mixed practice 'up north' and also spent some time working in New Zealand.
Craig now heads the Barnstaple surgery which means he is primarily a small animal clinician during office hours but still enjoys seeing the large animals out of hours. Like so many others Craig and his wife (also a vet) chose North Devon to settle because of it's countryside and beaches.
Craig tries to make the most of these by walking his dogs, trying to improve his surfing technique and occasionally being tempted out onto Exmoor on his wife's horses. After dark he can be found on the squash/badminton court or occasionally in the company of a glass of one of his homebrews!
Richard Locke - Clinical Director - BVet Med MRCVS
Richard qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004, moved to Devon to join the practice that autumn and has stayed in this lovely area ever since!
After several years enjoying a mixed workload of farm and small animal veterinary care, Richard is now primarily involved with the small animal side of the practice and is a familiar face in our South Molton branch. He has developed particular interests in small animal surgery and diagnostic imaging, but enjoys most of the varied challenges presented daily.
Outside of work Richard is kept busy by his family, their two lurchers and his garden, but he still finds time for the occasional game of hockey and very occasionally...a little fishing!
Rachel Forster - BVet Med MRCVS
Rachel qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1997 and joined Market Vets soon after. Her main interests are in farm work and equine practice. She is currently studying for her RCVS certificate in Sheep Health and Production. Rachel has kept horses all of her life, so she understands the challenges of horse ownership, she also gets out to a few competitions with her own horses when time allows! Rachel has also completed a course in Veterinary Acupunture and provides acupuncture treatment for all species of animals, large or small.
Samantha Lintin - BVSc MRCVS
Sam graduated from the University of Bristol in 2006. After working in mixed practice in Okehampton for two years she joined Market Vets in November 2008. Sam works mainly on the farm team and has a strong interest in Dairy Herd Health particularly cattle fertility and heifer rearing.
She runs the Dairy Herd Health and Heifer rearing Schemes and an Interherd Bureau Service. Married to a local dairy farmer Sam enjoys spending time with her two children and working on the farm!
Carly Cook - BVM&S MRCVS
Carly qualified from Edinburgh University in 2007, and went on to work in mixed practice in Somerset. She joined market vets in April 2008.
Carly predominantly works with in the small animal department. She has a specific interest in medicine, particularly diagnostic imaging and ophthalmology.
In her spare time Carly likes being at home on the farm either walking her dog, Charlie or riding her horse.
Kate Stevens - BSc (Hons) BVet Med PG Cert SAM MRCVS
Kate joined Market Vets in October 2010 after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College, London in the summer of that year. She is very excited to be working in such a progressive practice which will further her interests in all areas of mixed practice veterinary work. Kate has recently completed her post graduate certificate in small animal medicine.
Outside of work Kate enjoys rowing, canoeing, and playing the piano.
Neil Mottram - BSc BVsC MRCVS
Neil qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2013. After spending a year in mixed practice in Lancashire he decided to make the move 'down south' and is now working with the small animals of North Devon. He intends to make the most of the Devon countryside and beaches.
Anna Howard - BVet Med BSc MRCVS
Anna graduated from Royal Veterinary College in 2014 and spent 6 months working in a busy small animal practice in Bedfordshire before she joined Market Vets in March 2015 as she was missing the cows! She also has a previous degree in Zoology and after travelling around South America is keen to expand her knowledge in exotic animals.
When not exploring the local area in her spare time, Anna enjoys baking, painting and sketching or curling up with a good book.
Ellen Harmer - MA VetMB MRCVS
Ellen qualified from the University of Cambridge in 2002 and spent a few years in a small animal practice in Hertfordshire before returning to the University of Cambridge as a clinical Intern, doing further training and research in Ophthalmology.
After a few years away from practice whilst raising a young family Ellen joined the small animal team at South Molton in 2013, as a part time vet. You'll often see Ellen on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the South Molton surgery. Ellen enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and retains a particular interest in ophthalmology.
Caroline Moss - BVSc (Hons) MRCVS
Originally from Belfast, Caroline graduated from Liverpool in 1987. After a spell as an army vet she settled in the south west in mixed practice before moving into small animal medicine. She joined Market Vets in December 2014
Caroline works 2 days a week in Barnstaple and fills her remaining time with her family, horses, dogs and sheep.
Bec Newell - BVSc BSc MRCVS
Bec graduated from Liverpool University in 1995 and joined Market Vets in 2015.
She enjoys all aspects of working with small animals and is particularly interested in internal medicine.
Bec currently works three days a week and spends any spare time running and walking the beautiful North Devon coast with her family occasionally in tow.
