South West Healthy Livestock Initiative – Sheep

At last, the SWHLI sheep programme has been launched. 

The sheep elements of Healthy Livestock are delivered through a series of focus farms to encourage greater farmer/vet communication and to improve the health, welfare and profitability of the sheep sector in the region.

Focus farmers and their vets work with consultants to analyse production data, draw up health plans and implement best practice in sheep health and husbandry. Each focus farm addresses two annual targets (e.g. reduce lameness, reduce lamb losses, improve parasite control, improve lamb growth rate/carcass weight etc).
