Nurses Area
Veterinary Nurses (VN’s) work alongside Veterinary Surgeons to provide a high standard of care for our patients.
Veterinary nurses provide skilled supportive care for sick animals as well as undertaking minor surgery, monitoring of patients during anaesthesia, medical treatments and diagnostic tests at the request of veterinary surgeons.
Veterinary nurses also play an important role in the education of owners of good standards of animal care and run nurse clinics such as adolescent health checks, post operative checks, dental checks, weight clinics and mobility clinics.
Qualified nurses have to be on the Royal College of Veterinary surgeons list of Veterinary Nurses in order to be able to undertake the full legal role of a veterinary nurse.
In 2007 nurses already qualified had the opportunity to join an advanced register of veterinary nurses which is the first important step in getting our qualification recognised as a profession in its own right. Newly qualified nurse are automatically entered onto this list.
Those nurses are known as RVN’s and are responsible for their own actions and must undertake regular CPD which is monitored by the RCVS to ensure they keep their skills and knowledge up to date. All of the nurses at Market Veterinary Centre are on this register as we believe we should be recognised as professionals and take pride in the level of care we are able to offer the patients in our care
The road to becoming an RVN requires a lot of hard work, training on the job, practical assessment as well and theoretical training and assessment. This takes a minimum of two years to complete.
At Market Veterinary Centre we take pride in training Student Veterinary Nurses to ensure there will be highly skilled RVN’s here to take care of your pets in the years to come.
