JULY 2011 - ENYA
BREED: Bernese Mountain Dog
AGE: 8 years
WHAT HAPPENED: Mammary lumps
Case Description:
Enya is an 8 year old female Bernese Mountain dog, she was first seen in May as her owner was concerned about a growth on her abdomen. The growth was associated with one of her mammary glands, and had grown over the previous couple of weeks. The lump was removed the next day in surgery, it weighed a massive 1.5kg, a drain was placed to help prevent a build up of fluid, and we kept her in at the vets for a few days to closely monitor her recovery.
Enya recovered amazingly well from her surgery, and the stitches were removed after 10 days. Unfortunately after only two months a further growth had started to appear, so Enya was taken back to surgery to remove it. She again recovered remarkably well, the healing was slightly delayed this time, but all being well the stitches will soon be out and Enya will be back to her normal bubbly happy self.
Enya has been presented with this months’ Braveheart Award as throughout the gruelling surgery and recovery time she has always been a joy to deal with, coming into the surgery happily for every check up. Unfortunately there can be no guarantees that the tumour will not return but in the meantime we all wish Enya well in her recovery, and hope not to see her for a while, in the nicest possible way!!
